June crochet along

This months crochet along was a beach bag. It was a great idea, just in time for summer.
The pattern was a little weird and it came out kind of a funky shape but it will work for a couple beach towels, by book and camera, and some snacks. The only thing is that I wish I had made the handles a little wider but I was too lazy to take it all out and start again. I ended up using about 5 balls of lilys sugars & cream. All and all it came out okay and I hope to get some good use out of it this summer.

Antique shopping

This last weekend Mark and I had to go up to Mt. Vernon to run an errand and decided to walk around and look at all the little shops around town. What we didn't know is that almost all of them are closed on Sundays. But we did find an antique shop that was open and we had a look around. Due to lack of excessive funds and space I had to settle with taking a few pictures of some of my favorite things.
I love the look on the mama's face. She looks so irritated with her babies, and they look just as irritated with her. It seems like a strange choice for a figurine.
It always bums me out a little to see old photos. They should be at home withing their families. I really loved this one because they look so happy, especially her. I really liked the paper frame with the blue flowers around it.
The look on this baby's face made me laugh. He looks so scared about what the heck is going on.
I really wanted to take this old radio home! I was sad to leave it behind.
Who doesn't love jars of colorful thread and buttons?

One of my favorite things to look through at antique shops it the linens. I love looking at all the old embroidery and wondering who made this and how long ago. What is the story behind all the handkerchiefs, pillow cases, and table cloths? I was looking through and one thing caught my eye and I could not resist it. The second I had my hands on it I knew it was mine. It was a lovely tea pot cozy.

I really love all the bright flowers. I can't wait to make a pot of tea and put it to use.

Do you have any exciting antique shop finds?

What I'm working on

I have been wanting to make a crochet hook case for a while now but hadn't really found a pattern that I loved. I knew that I wanted one with individual pockets for the hooks and that rolled up and tied together. I always hunt around to find free patterns but I just couldn't find one that I was really happy with. So I broke down, scoured Etsy, and found this pattern. I really liked how it had the lacy pattern on the outside and the two tone colors. I used some of my left over yarn from last months crochet along.

I really liked how it turned out. The pattern was really easy to read and this took me about 2 days to finish it. The outside came out smaller than the inside so it curls up a little on the corners. I don't think I checked my gauge right. I blocked it and it came out better. All in all it was a great pattern, well written, and easy to follow. There is another case that has a different pattern on the outside that I may have to put on my project list for another time.

Are you working on anything fun?

Sunday drives

Last Sunday Mark and I decided to go for a drive. It was so nice out and we wanted to get out of the house for the day and enjoy the sunshine. We drove up highway 9 until we came to the Mountain Loop highway. We eventually ended up in Newhaven which is a couple hours away. It was so nice and relaxing just sitting back and looking at all the beautiful scenery.
We're on our way!

We stopped at a flower/berry stand to get some ice cream. I would to come to work everyday and see this.

The view from the other side of the stand.

Homemade raspberry chocolate chip ice cream. Yum!

The train at Newhaven. We stopped here almost every summer on our camping trips as a kid. My sis and I loved to climb on the train.

It was really fun to drive around and see all the stuff I hadn't seen since I was a kid. I pretty much napped the way back. Long car trips always make me so tired.

Have you been on any fun day trips lately?

Crochet Along

This months crochet along over at Habitual Homebody was a flower pot cozy. I don't really have any flower pots but I have one over at my boyfriends house that worked perfect.
I had to pick out some more "manly" colors since it's over at his house. But I really love the gold and grey combo so it wasn't to hard to love how this came out. I had planted catnip for Blue but I left the pot out in the rain and it got totally soaked. I had given up hope but when I went to measure the pot for the cozy, low and behold there was a few, very small sprouts!
I'm pretty excited that I haven't killed everything that I've planted so far!
