Believe it or not, I actually ran

It's a well known fact that I don't run. I hate almost everything about it. A friend of mine actually convinced me to do the Ugly Sweater Run 5k. Somehow I agreed, and it turned out to be fun.
The weather couldn't have been any better. It's been really cold the last week or so but it wasn't too cold this morning. (Which is nice because I'm a total wuss about cold.)

Waiting to get started
There was a sea of red and blue hats anxiously waiting to get going.
We were in the first wave of runners to go. It was nice because we finished before the bulk of the people so we got to enjoy the beer garden before it go too busy.
All in all it was fun to do. My sweater was pretty mild compared to some, There were some pretty epic ugly sweaters and lots of cute puppies with their own sweaters. I was pretty miserable while running (I use that term VERY loosely, ha!) but Heidi did a good job of keeping me from walking the entire time, which I totally would have done. It was something different to do and it was nice to get outside and enjoy the sun. Will I do another one? Maybe, maybe not. The jury is still out on that.

Happy Mail Day!

I've been so neglecting my blog lately. School always seems to get in the way. If it's not one thing it's another and I'm still trying to figure out how all this fits together. Last week though I had a happy mail day! I've had my eye on a Furls crochet hook for the longest time. I finally decided to splurge and get one.
It is SO pretty! It's hard to tell in the picture but it has a slight shimmer in the paint. It's also super smooth and light. I worked on my blanket a little bit and I barely have to grip it while I'm working. Now I want all the colors! Furls has some gorgeous wooden hooks but they are out of my price range. :( So in honor of my new hook of course I ordered some yarn I make a pillow for my boyfriend's house.
The brown and green striped yarn is the gift that came with the hook. (You get a free ball with each order from Furls.) It's super soft but being only one ball I'm not sure what I'm going to make with it yet. Any suggestions? I've followed Chiaki Creates blog for a while and she made the Razzamatzz pillow and it was SO pretty so I decided that I wanted to make it too. I haven't had a whole lot of time to work on my blanket or pillow yet. Sunday I planned on really getting going on it but woke up with a cold so I just lied around and napped all day. I'm hoping to get to it this week and really see how this hook feels.
What projects are you hoping to get going on?

Hoop Exchange

It's Just Emmy had a hoop exchange to help raise money for adoption. I was quick to sign up to support a good cause and do a fun swap. I decide to try my hand at crocheting in a hoop.
I used the African Flower granny square pattern and then single crocheted around the hoop. I was pretty happy how it turned out. I'm going to have to try some more.

I love the hoop that my partner sent me!!
The owls are so cute and I love the different fabrics. She also sent an owl photo holder that's currently being used on my nightstand. It was a fun project to do and hope to do more in the future.

Have you done any fun swaps before?

September Crochet Along

This month's crochet along over at Habitual Homebody was a ripple baby blanket. I don't have a baby or know anyone who is in need of a  baby blanket so I decided to make it a blanket for me. I started a blanket a while ago but quickly got bored with it. I was unsure of doing a round blanket but I liked the pattern and I figured that I would just see how it went. So far I'm pretty happy with it. I haven't finished it, I think that I have a few (very loooong) rounds to go before it's the size that I want it to be.

I had some Caron Simply Soft leftover from my last blanket attempt so I used that since I had it lying around. I think that it will be a pretty soft and snugly blanket when it's done. It's a fun project to do and gave me good motivation to start and actually finish a blanket.

What I'm hookin'

A couple years ago I bought a Fuji Instax instant camera. I played around with it for a while and then it got pushed into the back of my closet. While I was doing some cleaning I came across it and figured that I had spent the money for it that it didn't make much sense to have it lying around collecting dust. One of the reasons I didn't use it much was because I didn't want to throw it in my bag because it didn't have a case or cover. One night I decided to make one up really quick. It was a great way to use up some left over yarn I had. I'm really happy with how it came out.

The purple looks more gray in the pictures, it's actually more lavender. I did alternating rows of half double crochet and single crochet. I thought it gave it a little interesting texture. The flap came out a little wonky looking but I'm not really to concerned about it. It does the job. :) I'm excited to take my camera with me and take some fun photos with it.

What have you been working on lately?

Vintage Gladys shopping

I'm not sure if you've had the chance to read dottie angel's blog or read her  book, but if you love anything vintage then you should defiantly check it out. I'm lucky enough to be able to live near the her. She happened to be having a vintage sale in her streamline trailer named Gladys and I jumped at the chance to go. I could have bought everything in there, including the trailer. I did end up with some goodies though. Everything in there was a vintage dream and I was able to snap a few pics of my favorite things.

I loved both these crochet bunting! Gives me some ideas for some new projects.

It was so nice to meet the lady behind dottie angel.
She is just as lovely as you would expect.

I couldn't pass up these cute knitting needles and (of course) a new brooch.
I loved the colors and pattern of  this crochet pillow.
It was nice to get out of the house in probably the last couple weeks of summer for a fun little adventure.

August Crochet Along

August's crochet along over at the Habitual Homebody was a hexagon table runner. I was so glad to see that this was picked to make. When I saw in on Pinterest it looked liked it would be a fun project to make.
My pile of hexagons ready to be put together.
I really liked this project. It was nice to be able to do a little here and a little there. It was the last month of my summer quarter and anxiety was running high for me. I like to crochet to help relieve some stress. Making these hexagons was perfect because it was a super easy pattern to memorize and I could just work along and not have to really think about it. I'm not sure exactly where I'm going to put it, maybe take it over to Mark's house. I'm sure Blue would love to lay on it and make it his.

Hot yoga, Ferris Wheels, and Pink drinks

Photo from Sweat box yoga
Yesterday my friends Heidi and Ren took me out for my birthday. We started the day with some hot yoga. They have been going for a while and have really fallen in love with it. I had never been so I came along. It is no joke when they say it's hot. I was nervous to go because I get that panicky, can't breathe feeling when it's too hot. Luckily if I was feeling overwhelmed I could just lay there if I wanted. When we got started I had a hard time concentrating on what the instructor was saying because I could not get my mind off the heat. I had to force myself to listen and focus. When I work out (which isn't very often) I don't really sweat too much, pretty quickly I realized how sweaty I was. Holy geez! I couldn't believe it. I'm not too flexible so some of the poses I could't do very well, which is fine because it's all go at your own pace. Do what you can. Towards the end we did a series of floor stretches. I lied on my back starring at the fan that was mocking me, I could see it moving but couldn't feel anything. It started to feel a little like Groundhog Day, I was never going to escape. But I have to admit that a couple hours later I did feel pretty good, like i could take a pretty killer nap. I woke up this morning pretty sore. I defiantly can tell that I worked some muscles yesterday. I did like the yoga part of it but I'm not sure if I'm down with the hot part of it. I would go again and see if it was better than the first time.

After that we went downtown to have lunch at the Met, but we didn't realize that the restaurant didn't open until 4. So we went and had a beer at Ivar's and decided to take a ride on the Ferris Wheel. I hadn't been on it yet so I was pretty excited.

After that we walked back up to the Met to have dinner. They took me there so we could have french onion soup. It's one of my favorites and the Met's is so good! Heidi and I got their Pink Drink, rose wine with house infused strawberry vodka. It was pretty tasty! Because we went for my birthday we got a free creme brulee, which is my favorite dessert. I was pretty excited about that. All it all it was a really fun day with my friends filled with good food, some laughs, and lots of sweating.

P.S. They gave my the cutest necklace for my birthday! I can't wait to wear it to work.

Happy Left-Hander's Day

Happy Left-Hander's day to all the lefties out there. I am an official member of the left handed club. Being left handed I get some of the silliest questions and comments all the time. This pretty much sums it up.
My favorite one that isn't on the chart is "How do you use scissors?" I get that one a lot. Just for the record, just like right hander's do. But I get special scissors ;) While I do love being left handed, I'm the only one in my family, it does come with some challenges. Learning any hand crafts has always been hard. Mostly because it's hard for people to teach me because it is literally completely backwards. And there is some serious strategy that goes into sitting at a restaurant with a group of people, especially if there is more than on lefty. I only real beef I have is that A LOT of the villains on t.v. are left handed. C'mon now guys, share the love a little.

Happy Left-Hander's Day!!

I don't know what to do!

One of my summer goals is to crochet a sweater or a top. I found a pattern that I really liked and ordered the yarn. It calls for DK weight but doesn't give any brands or specifics.
It's hard to tell in this photo but it's a dark purple, light and dark grey. I'm doing dark grey as the main color and the stripes in light grey and purple. I started working on it and I can't decide if I like how the yarn looks.
I'm afraid that it's going to look like a giant dishcloth when I'm all done with it. I'm contemplating getting a more plushy yarn, but I just don't know!! What do you guys think?

Thanks for any feedback.

I have a minor obsession right now....

This last Monday my friend JP and I went to the Jimmy Eat World concert. It was SO much fun. I hadn't seen them since I was a junior in high school, which was about 12 years ago (yikes!). They are every bit as good live as they are on their albums. When their album Bleed American came out I was instantly in love. I listened to it on constant rotation, and still do to this day. That was "my album" of my high school years. There's something about seeing your favorite band and getting to sing along to their songs with them. Now I have entered the few weeks post concert where I am way obsessed with listening to every album.
Here is my super grainy, crappy cell phone picture. It's the best of the worst, but it's my own memento from the concert. I hope to be able to see them again when they come through Seattle next time.

Who was your favorite band you got to see live?

It's Blue's birthday!

Today is my fur baby's 10th birthday. I adopted Blue about 5 years ago from a friend, he reminded me so much of my cat growing up, John-John. (where I came up with that name, I'll never know) He is a spoiled brat, but he is also very loving-when he wants to be and on his own terms.(typical cat, right?) I'm so happy that he came into my life and hope to enjoy many more years with him.
I even converted Mark into a cat lover, he spoils Blue more than anyone.
A typical Sunday morning for us.

Happy birthday Blue! He'll get a few extra belly rubs today.

Do you have any special pets in your life?
